I started this venture with one simple mission — to help more Aussies grow their own damn food, no matter where they live, but especially up here in the tropical heat where gardening can feel like a battle against the sun itself.

I’ve spent countless days dripping sweat in the backyard, watching plants wilt before lunchtime and wondering why gardening advice from down south never seems to work up here. The tropics are different. The sun is harsher, the humidity is heavier, and the seasons don’t follow the rules. But when you get it right — when you bite into that first homegrown tomato or harvest a chilli you raised from seed — it all becomes worth it.

Barry’s Backyard was born from that struggle and that joy. I wanted to create a place where tropical and northern gardeners could finally feel seen — where advice, tools, and products are made for our heat, our conditions, and our stubborn determination to grow food anyway.
