Welcome to Barry’s Backyard!
G'day and thanks for stopping by!
My name’s Billy, and this is my little patch of green up here in the Northern Territory – welcome to Barry’s Backyard!
This page is all about gardening in the tropics, sharing the ups, downs, and everything in between as I grow food and plants in one of Australia’s most unique climates.
Right now, the backyard is buzzing with life. I’ve got several smaller wicking beds going strong with tomatoes, chillis, rosellas, zucchini, and a few other tasty surprises. These beds are a game changer in the Top End – they keep moisture in and give the plants a fighting chance during our harsh dry spells.
I’ve also set up three big IBC wicking beds, which are home to a jungle of pumpkins, watermelon, more zucchinis, and of course, more chillis (because let’s be honest – can you ever have too many chillis?).
And just recently, I rolled up the sleeves and built two new raised garden beds, which are already prepped and ready to join the action. I’ll be sharing updates on what goes in, how it grows, and how it all fits together here in the hot and humid North.
This page is for anyone interested in tropical gardening, wicking beds, and making the most of your backyard – no matter how big or small. I’ll be posting regular updates, tips, photos, and maybe even a few mistakes so we can learn together.
Thanks for joining me on this growing adventure – let’s see what we can make happen in Barry’s Backyard!
